
Fighting Fraudulent Charge-Backs
Many people try to defraud merchants by ordering items online, and then
performing a fraudulent "charge-back" after they receive their merchandise. A
charge-back is when a customer goes to their credit card company, claims that
they did not authorize a purchase or that they didn't receive the merchandise
and forces the charge to be reversed.
This, of course, defrauds the merchant of the cost of the merchandise.
Fraudulent charge-backs can literally eliminate a company's profits.
This is especially true when its profit margin is slim, which is often the
case with online businesses such as Gardner Business Solutions.
Investigating charge-backs
To prevent these potentially devastating losses, Gardner Business Solutions
will, in cooperation with phone service providers, investigate charge-backs. For
instance, GBS will trace any or all calls made with the
calling card in question. Calls will be traced to determine where and who
made and received each call. If Gardner Business Solutions determines
that a charge-back was performed fraudulently, then the card holder will be
prosecuted.
